The Manheim Township Fire Council (Council) is the governing body responsible for budget approvals, capital project review and approval, and approval of any Standard Operating Guidelines within the MTFR system. The Council was first formed in 1992 after a comprehensive study of the MT Fire Service recommended a governing body be formed to more closely assist the Township in the oversight of the fire service.
Today the Council is comprised of nine (9) Board members, consisting of:
- Three (3) volunteer fire chiefs, one from each station within the MTFR system
- Three (3) citizens-at-large, selected through an application process by the MT Board of Commissioners
- The MT Manager
- The MT Commissioner responsible for fire protection
- The career MT Fire Chief
This nine member Council meets bi-monthly to transact the business of the MT fire service.
