Behind the Badge Spotlight:
Hello, my name is Eric and I am the Fire Marshal for Manheim Township Fire Rescue.
I was hired as the Fire Marshal (FM) for MTFR in late June of 2022 after working 31 years for the Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency. Although only on the FM job for less than two months, I have a long history with the Manheim Township fire service. I started as a junior firefighter with the Eden Fire Company of Manheim Township in December of 1982 and have been an active volunteer and duty crew member in the MTFR system since.
What inspired me to work for MTFR was the unique opportunity to be a part of great team. MTFR is comprised of tremendously talented, dedicated and high-caliber firefighters as well as strong leadership with a progressive focus, vision and commitment for improving public safety.
I like the diversity of the people, places and things in the township. It has just about everything that makes every day different. My job is not just about serving the community, it is also about learning more about it. You can’t effectively serve the community if you don’t understand it.
I live in West Hempfield Township with my son (a MTFR duty crew member), who just graduated from the DC Fire Academy, and my daughter who is in the midst of becoming a nurse. I enjoy writing (primarily about emergency service pre-incident preparedness), hiking and going to the beach (shore or bay) anytime during the year. Any day at the beach is a good day!
